Allies or Family? Is there a difference when it comes to vigilantism?

Both Spider-Man and Batman are considered vigilantes in their respective universes and cities. However, just because what they do is illegal per the law does not mean that the police dislike them. Well, not all of them, at least.

Allies are individuals who assist the hero, in theory. Batman has several allies which typically end up being his “family” or “sidekicks”. Spider-Man, his allies are more super-powered friends and other street heroes. These are their closest allies.

Batman:

Alfred Pennyworth

  • Was there for Bruce when his parents were murdered
  • Batman's eyes and ears when he is in the field
  • A trained former MI6 agent

Nightwing (Dick Grayson)

  • Was the first ever robin and sidekick to the caped crusader
  • Batman considers Dick as his first son
  • Closest ally since spoiler death

Commissioner Gordon (Jim Gordon)

  • Commissioner of the GCPD (Gotham City Police Department)
  • Father of Barbara Gordon (Batgirl)
  • Batman's closest ally within the police department

Spider-Man:

Mary Jane Watson

  • Neighbors and friends for a long time before becoming romantically involved
  • Always there for Peter when he needs it most
  • New comic run they are married with children

Human Torch (Johnny Storm)

  • Member of the Fantastic Four
  • Spider-Mans best super-hero friend
  • He offered his spot on the fantastic four to Peter after his apparent death

Daredevil (Matt Murdock)

  • First one to discover Spider-Mans identity because of his powers
  • Always there for each other in dire situations
  • Reveals his own identity to Spider-Man to be on even footing and deepen their professional relationship as well as friendship
